MEDINA COUNTY AUDITOR’S SEALS CONTEST 2009

Again this year, the Medina County Auditor’s Office is sponsoring a contest to design approval stickers to be used by the Weights and Measures Division of the Office. These stickers are used to identify weight and measures devices in Medina County that have been inspected and approved for use and are used to identify places of business that have passed the price verification criteria.

The student must live in, or attend, school in Medina County. Schools or students wishing to participate who are outside of Medina County are welcome to compete, but cannot receive an award higher than Honorable Mention.

The contest will officially start Monday, September 7, 2009 and all entries must be received in the Auditor’s Office by Friday, November 13, 2009. Winners will be notified on Monday, November 23 2009. All entries should be submitted to the Auditor’s Office, 144 North Broadway, Room 306, Medina, OH 44256.

The following rules will be enforced:

Rules for Seal Design

1. Must be no larger than 2.25 inches in the longest direction if a rectangle, circle or square. Other shapes must have no dimension longer than 2.25 inches.

2. Two copies of each entry must be submitted.  Both copies must be camera ready.  The entry should additionally be submitted on electronic media (CDR), or in a form that is readable by the Commercial Printer. JPEG is NOT acceptable. Adobe Illustrator format is preferred. Preferable formats are *.eps or *.pdf.  If this is not possible, the winners will submit a photo ready copy for the printer.  Scanned formats are NOT acceptable to the printer.

3.  All entries must be correct AS ENTERED.  There should be no omissions or incorrect spellings.
Any errors will negatively impact the entrant’s chances of being selected.
Please proofread carefully—it could make the difference between winning and losing.

4.  The following text information must be on any entries intended for device approval seals

*The name, “MICHAEL E. KOVACK” should be in capital letters and be prominently displayed on the seal. “MEDINA COUNTY AUDITOR” should also be prominently displayed.

*The year of inspection must also be prominently displayed.   This is, “2010-2011.”

*The sticker must say, “Inspected and Sealed” and be easily read.

*The Auditor’s Office web site address must be on the sticker. It is www.medinacountyauditor.org .

*The Auditor’s Office phone numbers must be listed including the area code.  The numbers should read:  “Medina: (330)725-9764”, “Wadsworth:  (330) 336-6657” and “Brunswick:  (330)225-7100.”

*The designer’s name must be included on the sticker in an inconspicuous manner.

  1. The rules for entries for price verification stickers are the same as above EXCEPT, “Inspected and Sealed” is not included.  In its place are the statements, “Passed Price Verification” and “Equity in the Market Place”.  The font for these statements may be considerably smaller in order to accommodate them on the sticker.  “Passed Price Verification” should be more dominant than the other two statements.
  1. Colors and artwork design are left to the imagination of the designer. This year for the first time ever, entries are not limited in terms of the number of colors used.  Make sure the images in the designs are high resolution or they will look blurry. The designer should also keep in mind that the seal will be publicly displayed and should therefore be easy to read.
  1. There will be two winners, one in each division.  The winners will receive $100 United Savings Bonds.  The winners can also expect to see his or her sticker displayed throughout the county for the year 2010 on fuel dispensers, scales, cash registers and other devices that are inspected by the Medina County Weights and Measures Division of the Medina County Auditor’s Office.
