15th Annual Top
Dog Contest Is The Best Ever!
Dear Medina County Residents,
December 1st is the beginning of the Ohio
dog licensing period which ends on January 31,
2010. It is also the day we traditionally
hold the Awards Ceremony for the winners of the
Top Dog Essay Contest. That contest is open
to all fourth grade level students in the
county. Students are asked to write an
essay on why their dog is the Top Dog living in
Medina County.
This year we were inundated with entries
from all over the county and were they ever fun
to read! Selecting the top five was very
difficult, but we finally chose them and invited
the winners to attend the Awards Ceremony
with their dogs, the families and teachers.
We had a jam-packed room this year!
Typically, the dogs all get along and this year
was no exception.
Many local companies and organizations add
to the excitement by donating some fantastic
prizes. To the left you will see me with Tarah
Roller, our First Place winner holding one of her
gifts, a basket donated by Forgotten Animal Shelter
(who donated one to each of the winners). Bil-Jac Foods
donated dog food and decorative crates filled
with goodies. Northland
Dairy Queen donates a number of
goodies AND gives each child that enters a coupon
for a free ice cream just for writing an essay! Medina Skateland
and AMF Lanes,
Medina both offered several free
coupons to each winner and Pets Supplies Plus
donated pet items.
