ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE 2007 REAPPRAISAL
Is there
tax relief available?
There are
several tax reduction programs for which property owners may
qualify:
2
1/2% Rollback: Owner-occupied
homesites on agricultural and residential properties are entitled
to a 2 1/2% property tax reduction.
Homestead
Exemption: Homeowners 65 years
of age and older, or those permanently disabled, are eligible for
a property tax reduction. There are no longer any
income eligibility requirements. A $25,000 exemption is
automatically taken on the value of the parcel the primary home
is on (only) and taxes are calculated on that reduced
amount. You can sign up for the program in Room 102 or 301
of the County Administration Building at 144 North Broadway
Street, Medina, Monday through Friday, 8 to 4:30 or download the
form from the "Forms" page of this website.
Current
Agricultural Use Value (CAUV):
Agricultural property taxes may also be reduced if the
property is enrolled in the CAUV program. Eligible
properties must have at least 10 acres of agricultural use or
have the potential to produce an average yearly gross income of
$2,500. The reduction in value is dependent upon the soil
type. Applications are accepted in Auditor Kovack's office
between the 1st Monday in January and the 1st Monday in
March. There is an initial filing fee of $25.
Forestry Reduction:
Property value can be reduced by up to 50%
for the wooded land that is enrolled in the Forestry Reduction
Program. To be considered forest land, there must be 10
acres of contiguous forest not less than 120' wide. The
forest land must be maintained according to a management plan
approved by the State Forester. Applications must be filed
with the State Forester by July 1st each year. There is an
initial filing fee of $50.
