How do I
know if my value is correct?
As stated
earlier, Ohio law requires the County Auditor to assess your
property value based on fair market price. This essentially is
the estimated value your home would sell for on the open market.
An easy
rule of thumb is to ask yourself if you could sell your property
at the appraised price. If your answer is "yes"
or "I think I could sell it for a lot more," then you
should be satisfied with your appraised value.
If you are
not sure what your property would sell for, there are several
things you can do. First, you can look at the selling
prices of comparable homes in your area. The local newspapers
publish these on a regular basis.
Second,
you can contact a local realtor or a private appraiser to value
your property. There is normally a fee involved in this
service.
Third,
the best and fastest way to get the information is to simply log
on to my website and do your own research.
