The Medina County Auditor's Office
2012 ANNUAL SEAL DESIGN CONTEST

Once again, the Medina County Auditor’s Office is sponsoring a contest to design approval stickers to be used by the Weights and Measures Division of the office.  These stickers are used throughout Medina County to identify weights and measures devices that have been inspected and approved for use and are used to identify places of business that have passed the price verification criteria.

The contest is open to all high school-level students living in Medina County, including homeschooled students.  Schools or students wishing to participate who are outside of Medina County are welcome to compete, but cannot receive an award higher than honorable mention.  Winners will be notified by early December.

The contest will officially start on Monday, September 19, 2011.

All entries must be received by the Medina County Auditor’s Office by Tuesday, November 22, 2011.

All entries should be submitted to the auditor’s office at
144 North Broadway St., Room 306, Medina, OH 44256.

The following rules will be enforced:

1.  Must be no larger than 2.25 inches in the longest direction if a rectangle, circle or square.  Other shapes must have no dimension longer than 2.25 inches.

2.  Two copies of each entry must be submitted.  Both copies must be camera ready.  The entry should additionally be submitted on electronic media (CDR) or in a form that is readable by the Commercial Printer.  JPEG is NOT acceptable.  Adobe Illustrator format is preferred.  Preferable formats are *.eps or *.pdf.  If this is not possible, the winners will submit a photo ready copy for the printer.  Scanned formats are NOT acceptable to the printer.

3.  All entries must be correct AS ENTERED.  There should be no omissions or incorrect spellings.  Any errors will negatively impact the entrant’s chances of being selected.  Please proofread carefully—it could make the difference between winning and losing.

4.  The following information must be included on any Inspected and Sealed entries:

     • “MICHAEL KOVACK” should appear in capital letters and be prominently displayed on the seal. “MEDINA COUNTY AUDITOR” should also be prominently displayed.

     • The year of inspection, “2012-2013” must also be prominently displayed.

     • The seal must say, “Inspected and Sealed” and be easily read.

     • Must include the auditor’s office website address: www.medinacountyauditor.org

     • The auditor’s office phone numbers must be listed, including the area code. The numbers should read: “Medina: (330)725-9764”, “Wadsworth: (330)336-6657” and “Brunswick: (330)225-7100.”

     • The designer’s name must be included on the sticker in an inconspicuous manner.

5.  The following information must appear on any Passed Price Verification entries:

     • “MICHAEL KOVACK” should appear in capital letters and be prominently displayed on the seal. “MEDINA COUNTY AUDITOR” should also be prominently displayed.

     • The year of inspection, "2012-2013" must also be prominently displayed.

     • The seal must say, "Passed Price Verification" and "Equity in the Marketplace." The font for these statements may be considerably smaller in order to accommodate them on the seal. "Passed Price Verification” should appear more dominant than the other statements.

6.    Colors, artwork and design are left to the imagination of the student. Entries are not limited in terms of the number of colors used.  Make sure all images are high resolution or they will look blurry. The designer should also keep in mind that the seal will be publicly displayed and should therefore be easy to read.

7.    There will be two first-place winners, one in each division.  The winners will receive $100 US Savings Bonds.  The winners can also expect to see their stickers displayed throughout the county for the year 2012 on fuel dispensers, scales, cash registers and other commercial devices that are inspected by the Medina County Weights and Measures Division of the Medina County Auditor’s Office.
