MORE IMPORTANT STORM DAMAGE INFORMATION

Dear Residents,

In light of the damage our county sustained as a result of the terrific rains storms we have had recently, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has declared Medina County a federal disaster area. Some of the areas hardest hit are Medina, Medina Township, Montville Township and the Chippewa Lake area. The federal disaster designation is only for property owners at present, not for public property such as city-owned buildings. This assistance will help residents in the clean-up and repair of their homes.

Aid will be made available to individuals and businesses in the form of loans, or, in some cases, grants for temporary housing and repairs. For more information, contact FEMA at 800.621.3362.

I would also like to remind property owners and owners of manufactured homes that they may claim a reduction in the taxable value of structural property that has been destroyed or damaged through my office.

Ohio law enables property owners and owners of manufactured homes to claim the reduction at any time, regardless of the cause of the damage. The amount of reduction would be prorated based on the calendar quarter in which the damage occurred. For additional information, please my office at:

Medina: 330-725-9757
Brunswick: 330-225-7100, ext. 9757
Wadsworth: 330-336-6657, ext. 9757

Clean-up and rebuilding take time and money. My hope is that by listing these two avenues of support on my website, it will give all those in need of assistance the information they need to help make this process easier and less expensive.

Sincerely,
Michael E. Kovack
Medina County Auditor
