On Thursday, May 19, 2011, Michael E. Kovack,
Medina County Auditor and Coordinator of the Medina
County Student of the Month Program, hosted a celebratory
night of honor for a very special group of Medina County
students. These young people were selected by their
peers as the Students of the Year from their respective
schools. They and their families, advisors and
other school dignitaries were treated to a wonderful
dinner at Williams on the Lake in Medina.
Michael Todd, Medina Township Trustee, gave the
keynote speech on, "The Making of a
Leader." Many distinguished guests came to
help congratulate the students including Juvenile and
Probate Judge John Lohn, Brunswick Mayor Gary Werner and
Wadsworth Superintendent Dale Fortner.
Auditor Kovack then announced the two Medina County
Students of the Year(Click here). This
year that very special honor went to two Wadsworth
students, Maria Fortner and
Steve Manning.
Kovack commented, "This is an amazing group of
young people. They not only have high grade averages, but
also have strong leadership qualities, all-around school
participation and a deep commitment and involvement in
the communities where they live. I would be remiss
if I did not thank the Medina Kiwanis and the Feckley
Foundation for their financial support in making this
evening possible. It must also be noted that the
Advisors to the Students of the Month Program in most
cases volunteer their time to assist the students in
making their selections each month. This dinner is
the culmination of much work by many dedicated
individuals and I personally want to salute their
commitment."
