MEDINA COUNTY REGIONAL
PET ADOPTATHON:
BEST SUCCESS EVER!!!!
Dear
Medina County Residents,
If
you missed the 2008 Regional Pet
Adoptathon produced by my office and the
Animal Shelter, you missed a whale of a
successful event that was tons of fun and
generated new homes for many pets.
Our initial estimate from the rescue
groups who brought their pets is that approximately
85-90 pets, or applications for
pets, were recorded on Saturday.
These included a record number of
dogs and cats and even one guinea
pig!
Forty
groups from shelters to breed specific
rescue groups to pet food companies were
represented. We also had four
veterinarians with gifts ranging from
free doggie daycare packages to free
initial exams for pets adopted Saturday
to dog leashes to put on the new
pet. We also had a gentleman
who did micro-chipping at the SPCA
booth. People went home with lots
of pet food too, including Bil-Jac Foods
which also supports my Top Dog Contest in
the fall. A special thanks also goes to
the Cleveland APL for bringing their
retrofitted RV filled with pets for
adoption. That is quite a vehicle
to see!
We
had wonderfully heart-warming stories
such as the one about Toby. This
cute guy had a really sad story.
His owner is dying of cancer and needed
to give him up. Toby was a
depressed Lhaza Apso at the Adoptathon,
missing his owner, I am sure.
Fortunately, my Chief Deputy Auditor
filled out an application for him.
He will have a new home sometime this
week. The funny part is he is going to
have a home with another Lhaza Apso named
Toby! I think they will have a lot
of fun together and the new Toby will
have a great life!
I
want to personally thank all the pet
groups and all the individuals that
donated countless hours of time to make
this event the biggest, most successful
Adoptathon we have ever had. Thank
you for the advertising donated by Dick
Goddard at Channel 8, 104.1 radio
station, and all the newspapers,
especially the Medina
Gazette with their
fantastic four-page spread. Also, I would
like to thank my staff who love this
event and put their hearts into it!
Many
smiling faces and happy hearts left the
Community Center at the Fairgrounds on
Saturday. What a joy and privilege
it is to unite people with a special new
best friend.
Have
a great week!
Sincerely,
Michael E. Kovack
